8th anniversary, 463 posts

C&T Custom Lures on ETSY

Yes, I have been blogging here for eight whole years!  My first post featured a poem I'd heard on the Writer's Almanac which I could post just as easily today, but for a historical marker, go to one of my first long posts, written in English and in French (such as my French was, after spending 2007-2008 in Paris)  about the day after the 2008 election and my feelings about seeing Barack Obama become President.

Very shortly after that I wrote about "the beauty of the blog," even though at that point I don't believe
ANYONE was reading it.  Perhaps that's why posting was a little haphazard until my momentous entry into this Poetry Friday community (momentous for me, not necessarily for the PF community!)
That came in March of 2009, which is another anniversary I look forward to celebrating.

For now, though, this:

Keeping It Together
All threads and trains,
No rules, restraints,
No due dates, deadlines, demands.
I get to choose.  It's in my hands:
Vocabulary, voice, venom or valentine--
Each and every muse is mine.
Reaching in deep or out wide, me to you,
Sampling the past or hewing the new,
A record here is made,
Revels, relations, revelations live here
Year after year after year.

Today's round-up is with Irene and her scarecrow show (how wonderful!) at Live Your Poem.  Wishing you, her and her scarecrow the same satisfaction that I can't help but feel at sticking with this for eight years!

I particularly like "Voice, vocabulary, venom or valentine--
Each and every muse is mine."

  3. I like all you included in the poem. Congratulations for these eight years, Heidi. I'm glad you joined the PF community, and continue keeping your record. I like the line Tabatha shared too; "Each and every muse is mine", makes us revel over everyone's post, doesn't it?

  8. Congratulations! I love how blogging has connected me to people like you. "No dates, deadlines, or demands." That's what it's all about. I didn't post this week. That's OK, too, because no one has given me an assignment.

  12. Eight years in this lemon heaven is a labor of love, a devotion to words and a sharing with the world. Congrats! I am happy for the day I joined Poetry Friday, too. I spread the news to other poets. I don't often see them join. Perhaps it's daunting to them, as it was to me, the idea of committing to it. The wonder and joy of it pull me along. This part of your poem resonated with me the most: "I get to choose. It's in my hands" because that is one of the best parts. Everything about blogging is voluntary, and you can pick it up and put it down. The community is wonderful.
