owning it

lift a lime, a loaf of bread
steal a scarf, a spool of thread
nick a nail, a bolt, a screw
all these things belong to you--

because you saw them, touched them, smelled them
then you listened as you held them,
now they live inside your head,
sneak into stories you can spread
